Utility Templates
Utility templates are used for specific transaction-related purposes such as confirming, suspending, or changing a transaction or subscription.
If a template contains a combination of utility and marketing content, it will be considered a marketing template.
Utility templates help businesses maintain consistent and reliable communication with their customers.
Examples of utility templates in WhatsApp Business include order confirmations, shipping notifications, appointment reminders, account verification codes, and customer support messages.
Authentication Templates
Starting from May 29, 2023, the following requirements will apply to authentication templates.
Authentication templates are used to verify users through one-time passcodes, typically consisting of 4-8 alphanumeric codes. These templates may be used in various steps of the login process, such as account verification, account recovery, or integrity challenges.
Authentication templates have specific restrictions. Businesses must use WhatsApp's predefined authentication message templates, which can include optional elements like security disclaimers and expiry warnings. Additionally, authentication templates must configure a (copy code or one-tap) for better user experience.
URLs, media, and emojis are not allowed in authentication template content or parameters. Furthermore, parameters have length restrictions of 15 characters.
Marketing templates
Marketing templates are highly flexible and do not pertain to specific transactions. Instead, they are used for general business-related purposes, including promotions, offers, welcome or closing messages, updates, invitations, recommendations, or requests for responses or new transactions.
Here are a few examples of marketing templates:
